Supporters Club

... our unique work can involve you in at least two different ways.

FIRST: Consider going on a sponsored challenge (see below).

SECOND:  Join our Supporters’ Club.

  • We would like to build a strong base of 1000 people who will pray weekly for SCORE and who will give 10+ monthly to SCORE
  • We would like you to Join our Supporters’ Club

If you’d like to become a Supporters Club Member, please do one of the following:

  • FIRST, download our STANDING ORDER MANDATE form. Then fill it out and mail it to our Watford office.  Once we receive it we’ll then send you additional details.  (Please note that it may take a few seconds for the file to open).
  • OR, you can send us an email using the email page on this website.  Include your regular postal address, and we will send you a brochure with additional details on how to become a Supporters Club Member.

We are grateful to Churches, Denominations, Sports Institutions, Grant-making Trusts and individuals who help us, but we need to transform our financial base so we are able to fulfill our mission of SCORE and complete the task God has given us to do. Regular monthly giving really will make a difference.

To all who complete the form below we promise ...

  • To send you an annual report, updating you on our progress.
  • To send you our newsletter, “Scoresheet” as it is published.
  • To notify you of any major developments via this website.
  • To make our associates available to you and your church wherever and whenever possible.

GREAT WALL OF CHINA SPONSORED TREK

Matt Baker, a Score Board Member, recently completed a sponsored trek on the Great Wall of China October 9-17, 2004.  The challenge was organised by Tailblazers, a part of the Saltmine Trust; and was intended to raise some much-needed funds for Score. If you would like to go on a trek like one Matt went on, please contact Ray Dupere at the Watford office. Below is Matt’s account of his trip.

What a fantastic trip!

The aim of the trip was to raise much-needed funds for SCORE.  At the time of this writing, with some money still to come in, it looks like I will have raised between £5000 and £6000 for the charity. This in itself is a good enough reason to have taken on the challenge. If you add in to this the experience of trekking the Wall, seeing a completely different culture and getting to know a new group of people then this really was an opportunity not to be missed.

The trek lasted for 5 days, taking in three sections of the Wall about 100 miles north of Beijing. The views were spectacular, looking from the Wall across the mountains to distant villages and with the Wall snaking ahead over the horizon.  We were encouraged before the trip to get fit and I was glad I did as certain sections were steep and difficult to climb.  Having said that I never felt the physical challenge was beyond me and everyone in our party, varying in age from their 20’s to 50’s, achieved the trek.

In the afternoons we would descend from the Wall to a nearby village where we camped for the night.  The camps were all set up in advance by a host family who were very friendly and attended to all our needs – cooking, camping, providing a guide, etc.  To take in some of the Chinese culture was a privilege, not just eating proper Chinese food but also to see people farming the fields and to visit some in their homes was eye opening.

At the end of the trek we returned to Beijing where we visited some of the sites – Tiananmen Square, The Forbidden City and part of the old traditional hutong district.  We also had time to shop which for me meant stocking up on Chinese tea and buying a traditional wok.

I have many memories which will remain for a long while. To stand on the Wall, at times with no one else to be seen and just take it all in was incredible.  To experience a country of such extremes – of temperature, 25C in the day and -3C at night; of wealth, affluence in the city and poverty in the countryside; of busyness and crowding in the city to peace and tranquillity in the mountains. To develop some new friendships with the other members of the trek; it was amazing how well we all got on, sharing, helping and encouraging one another along the way.

China definitely has a new place in my heart now, I would love to go back again one day, I have new friends I hope to keep in touch with and SCORE seems to have done rather well out of it as well!
