Since our chaplain, Revd John Boyers, got involved with Manchester United in September 1992, I have become more and more aware of SCORE and its work. I am glad to see its influence extending across the UK and to a wider range of sports- especially to Scottish Football and to Horse Racing! Chaplains can be of help to all sorts of people involved with sport, when crisis, need, or difficulty comes. I commend the idea of sports chaplaincy and the work of SCORE to you.
Sir Alex Ferguson, CBE, Manager, Manchester United.

Sports Chaplaincy at the University of Gloucestershire

added 2nd February 2010

You may be aware that in recent months SCORE has been in negotiations with the University of Gloucestershire in relation to the establishment of a suite of postgraduate courses in sports chaplaincy. It is the intention of the University to offer these courses from October 2010 via the following pathways: Postgraduate Certificate in Sports Chaplaincy, Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Chaplaincy, and MA in Sports Chaplaincy.

In order to provide insight into what these different course pathways will entail, John (Boyers) and I plan to run a series of 'Taster Roadshows' in June 2010. These one-day events will take place on/at the following dates/venues:

York St John University:                  Tuesday 15th June;      10.30 – 4 p.m.
University of Gloucestershire:            Thursday 17th June;     10.30 – 4 p.m.
London School of Theology:                Tuesday 22nd June;      10.30 – 4 p.m.
Kilsyth Community Church, Scotland:       Thursday 24th June.     10.30 – 4 p.m.

SCORE are now taking bookings for these events and if you would like to attend then please reply to e-mail stating your full name (and that of anyone likely to be accompanying you) and date/venue of choice. Needless to say, please circulate this message to others within your networks whom you think may be interested in attending.

In the meantime, if you would like to learn more about current course provision in sports ministry/outreach at UoG, then you can find this information at the following link: http://www.glos.ac.uk/courses/postgraduate/sco/Pages/default.aspx
