Since our chaplain, Revd John Boyers, got involved with Manchester United in September 1992, I have become more and more aware of SCORE and its work. I am glad to see its influence extending across the UK and to a wider range of sports- especially to Scottish Football and to Horse Racing! Chaplains can be of help to all sorts of people involved with sport, when crisis, need, or difficulty comes. I commend the idea of sports chaplaincy and the work of SCORE to you.
Sir Alex Ferguson, CBE, Manager, Manchester United.

added 18th November 2009

On 18th November 2009, Planet Sport carried an interview with Matt Baker, our newly appointed Pastoral Support Director for English Football.  Find out more about Matt's role by clicking now.

Listen to Matt's interview using our media player below, courtesy of Planet Sport http://www.planetsport.tv/

Presented by Norman Brierley and Adrian Barnard.

“Following the tragic suicide of Germany goalkeeper, Robert Enke, we talk to football chaplain, Matt Baker, (below left) about his role providing a listening ear to players experiencing the struggles of life. For several years Matt has been chaplain at former Premier League side, Charlton Athletic FC. He recently been appointed Pastoral Support Director in English Football, partly financed by the Professional Footballers Association, the Premier League and Football League Trust.

On Sunday the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals begin in London. The major tennis event features the world's eight top male players in this traditional end-of-season competition. Former Wimbledon champion, Pat Cash, offers his thoughts on the tournament and the players likely to make an impact.”
