There is no doubt that our club chaplain, Malcolm Lorrimer, has performed a very valuable service at the club. For players, he almost acts as a mentor. With the rest of the staff, he has offered real support for those who have suffered bereavement or just need someone to talk to. In todays helter-skelter world, a voice of calmness can be inspiring and invigorating.

SCORE in SINGAPORE

added 19th November 2009

John Boyers was asked to contribute to the training of potential chaplains for the Olympic Youth Games, scheduled for Singapore in August 2010. He flew out on saturday 7th November, returning on saturday 14th, and commented "it's a long way to go, and I ended up doing 6 fulldays of work between arriving at and departing from Singapore,  but the people out there found it well worthwhile"
SCORE in SingaporeJohn is experienced in major sports event chaplaincy, organisation and training, hence the request to work to prepare potential chaplains for next summer.
"I was one of three guys asked to contribute , the others being Roger Lipe from the USA, and Armenio Anjos from Portugal. We know each other from sports events and conferences around the world, but it was the first time I'd contributed as part of a team with them, but it did work well"
Over 60 delegates attended two days (tuesday & wednesday ) of basic chaplaincy training, and two days (thursday & friday ) of more advanced training in preparation for the 2010 Youth Olympics. John also did some speaking on the first sunday, and lead a seminar about sports ministry and football club chaplaincy on the monday!  It was a busy schedule, but shows how SCORE's experience in Sports chaplaincy is appreciated around the world.
