Mary Vickers Resignsadded 31st March 2009
We regret to announce that Mary Vickers has reluctantly decided to resign from her role as SCORE's Chaplaincy Coordinator for Women in Sport. There are some organisational and personal reasons why this has happened now, but it is also due to the difficulties in finding funding to secure the long-term future of her role.
Although she will not continue in her current SCORE role beyond the end of April, it is likely that Mary will continue as Visiting Sports Chaplain at Loughborough University (though this has yet to be discussed and confirmed officially by the University). She is also exploring other ways in which she might be able to remain involved in sports and leisure chaplaincy, and in these will be happy to work alongside SCORE where appropriate. Expressing his thanks to Mary Vickers, Gwyn Lewis (Chair of SCORE) said, "Mary has made a unique and highly valued contribution to SCORE. Among other things she has broadened our outlook and involvement with women in sport, helped to open the world of athletics to chaplaincy, and played a key role in developing the monthly Prayer Diary. We are all sorry to see her leave the staff team."
