Rev. Graham Locking is SCORE's chaplaincy director for Horse Racing. Based in Newmarket where he is integrated into the work of the Racing Welfare' organisation, he seeks to serve the whole racing community to which he is given extensive access. He's seen early morning on the Newmarket gallops, and through the day visiting trainers, stables, stud farms, and the occasional race meeting. He offers his specialist insights to racing people in need across the UK and in helping develop chaplaincy in other ‘racing centres' around the country. |
SCORE seeks to support over 75 chaplains serving football clubs from all parts of the UK. Some of these are linked to very large clubs employing four or five hundred full time staff.
Others are involved with smaller, part-time institutions, with a handful of full-time organisational staff. In every setting, chaplains are involved to offer their unique help and support to all staff, from part time office cleaner to international player, and all in between!

Rugby League |
Dave Chawner has served London Wasps as their chaplain for over 7 years, and is now applying his 25 years of ministry experience as SCORE's fulltime Rugby Union chaplaincy coordinator.
Dave's high level contacts in the game have enabled him to share the vision for chaplaincy extensively across the 4 home nations. There are currently 25 Rugby Union chaplains in the SCORE network, which includes the majority of top level clubs and a growing presence at other levels of the game. SCORE, working with the RFU, also now provides chaplaincy to their elite match officials. However, we still need to secure ongoing funding for Dave's post with SCORE - please help if you can! |
Our work in Rugby League is headed by our volunteer co-ordinators, chaplains
Allen Bagshawe, (Hull RLFC) and Peter Dale, (Bradford Bulls RLFC). More than
half of the Super League clubs have official chaplains, and we hope to extend that number significantly both at Super League level and below. We see the need to engage a parttime co-ordinator to support the development of Rugby League chaplaincy, and are seeking funding for this appointment. |

At Major Sporting Events |
| Five of the county cricket clubs now have official chaplains, and two - Max Wigley at Yorkshire CCC and Malcolm Lorrimer at Lancashire CCC - serve as chaplaincy coordinators for SCORE. We believe it can build on this significant bridge into the county game, to extend the network further in 2009. |
SCORE has considerable experience in organising, training and deploying chaplaincy teams at major sports events. These have included Olympics, Paralympics, Commonwealth Games and World Finals of specific sports- cross country running, rugby league, rugby union and boxing.

| We are encouraged by Alan Boulding's pioneering work in Club Athletics, and hope that this will become a template for other similar appointments around the country. |
