Plans & Hopes
We desire to make quality chaplaincy available to the whole world of sport.
We hope to extend the network of chaplains serving football clubs. Presently, about 70% of
league clubs have a chaplain, and many non-league clubs have one as well. The work in Rugby
League & in Rugby Union is expanding, so that in each code between most of the teams in the top divisions have official chaplaincy appointments. The work in Horse Racing is now well
established, the number of opportunities abound and the need for expansion is evident. We have established effective chaplaincy in other sports, such as County Cricket, and are
supporting other initiatives in Motor Sports, Basketball, Athletics, Tennis, and Golf. Other
opportunities are beckoning, not least at major national and international sports events due our experience in at various Commonwealth, Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Much effective work is being done within the regions. Scotland, Northern Ireland & Wales all
have effective development groups, and in each region the network is growing steadily..
Because of the extent of the work, more workers are needed, but this requires additional
funding that we do not yet have. We hope to establish a secure financial base in order for us
to appoint the necessary personnel in the future. We are very grateful for all those who work on behalf of Score in a voluntary capacity.
Prayer Support
Pprayer support is essential for our work. Please pray for our staff and all the volunteer
chaplains that they will have God’s wisdom as they move in these pioneering fields. Pray that
they will show compassion, work with great sensitivity, and have the opportunity to share His love with those seeking spiritual help & asking spiritual questions of all kinds.
Pray for the work to continue and for new opportunities to appoint chaplains to clubs and
organisations that do not already have them.
The opportunities to expand the work of the charity are numerous and growing; and although
the financial requirements are relatively small, extra finances are required to take advantage
of these opportunities and to put the charity on a firm financial footing. Please pray for this.
For more detailed prayer information, please see Scoresheet, our Prayer Supporters’
Magazine which comes out three times a year. We also publish a monthly Prayer Diary, sent
out by email to those who wish to pray for our work. If you’d like to receive this on a regular basis, please contact us via the Email Page on our website.
Funding
Score is funded by donations from a wide range of sources, including the Baptist Union Home
Mission Fund, various football bodies and Horse Racing charities, trusts and grant-making bodies, fund-raising events, and by gifts from individuals and churches.
As with all charities, funding is a major issue without which we cannot expand or even continue
the current level of ministry which God has opened up to us. If you are able to support the work at any level we will be most appreciative. Our Supporters’ Club consists of those
individuals who have pledged to give £10.00 per month via standing order (with Gift Aid if
appropriate). Such consistent monthly giving will help the Charity enormously. Appropropriate
forms may be obtained by emailing, telephoning, faxing or writing to either of our offics.
